Morning Chapel Honors 25th Anniversary of 9/11
On the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the Belmont Hill community gathered for a morning Chapel to remember the event through history, poetry, and heartfelt reflection. 
 
Chris Bracken ’15 of the History Department ensured the boys understood the complete scope of the day and its lasting impact on the country by sharing historical details of the attacks and response. Max Bushey ’29, Krish Chandar ’29, and Alex Chen ’27, who were honored with Distinctive Recitations from last year’s Poetry Fest, delivered a moving performance of Billy Collins’s poem ”The Names”. And in a video presentation, faculty members who were present at Belmont Hill on 9/11, as teachers or as students, shared their memories from the response on campus. 

Following these presentations of heartfelt mourning and inspiring unity, School President Charlie Rubel ’26 led the community in a moment of silence to honor the victims and heroes.

As is tradition for any Chapel, Charlie concluded the proceedings with the phrase “Sixth Form,” prompting students to depart towards the day ahead. Whereas the declaration of “Sixth Form” is typically followed by a swell of laughter and good cheer, the only sounds heard this morning came from squeaking shoes as boys and faculty filed out, carrying the moment of silence as a community across the Belmont Hill campus.
