Concerto Competition Winner Austin Kwoun Performs in Chapel

The school met in the Hamilton Chapel this morning to hear talented Fifth Form violinist Austin Kwoun perform along with a piano accompanist.

The boys thanked Austin for this superb musical showcase with a standing ovation.

Earlier this year, Austin won first place in the highest category (Category D) of the New England Conservatory Concerto Competition with the Shostakovich Violin Concerto #1 in A minor, Opus 99. His performance this morning consisted of an excerpt from this concerto, which included the Cadenza from the 3rd movement (Passacaglia) and then the 4th and final movement (Burlesque) of the piece.

As the prize for his NEC competition win, next winter Austin will have the honor of performing the Shostakovich concerto in its entirety as a soloist supported by a full orchestra.
