The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the warmth and support they have received and sincerely thank you for your kind expressions of sympathy.
George Hagerman Phinney, known to most as Georgie, was a happy, loving, and deeply radiant seven-year-old. He came into this world on June 6, 2015 at Sharon Hospital in Sharon, Connecticut and departed quietly in his sleep at home in Belmont, MA on December 4, 2022.
Over the years, he took his family and friends on an incredible journey that would include a deep connection to Boston Children’s Hospital. From nurses to doctors and everyone in between, Georgie had a team that extended into the hearts and minds of all those who walked this journey with him. Along the way, George taught us how valuable the little moments are, and just how much joy can be shared in one smile, crooked or otherwise. He loved the water—whether that was playing in the sink or at the beach—he had his favorite blue swing in the backyard, and there was no one that loved Caspar Baby Pants Stompy the Bear song more than Georgie.
George recently enrolled at Perkins School for the Blind, where we all saw the work of real life angels play out in magical ways. George’s team was a deep bench, but at the helm of leadership were his parents, Brian and Jamie Phinney, along with his little sister, Lincoln and their dog, Bear. He had an army of family pushing and willing him forward from his grandmothers to aunts, uncles, and eleven cousins.
George was full of surprises, but perhaps his greatest miracle was taking that support of his entire team and turning it into a marvelously independent life in recent years. It will be those memories of him as his own person that we will hold closest to our hearts as we remember Georgie now and in the future. We know full well that he was greeted on heaven's steps by his two grandfathers, George Phinney Jr. and David Hagerman, ready to take over as Team Georgie front office. George led with love and joy, and all those who can do the same will honor his memory every day.
A celebration of Georgie's life will be held on December 19, 2022 at 2:00pm at the Hamilton Chapel, Belmont Hill School, 350 Prospect Street, Belmont, MA. We ask that any donations in George's name be directed to the Perkins School for the Blind or the Professional Center for Child Development.
