Varsity Cross Country
The Coach
Coach Tyson Trautz is in his 13th year as varsity coach after seven years as assistant varsity coach and two years guiding the Middle School team.
At Cheverus High School in Maine, Coach Trautz ran all three seasons: cross country, indoor, and outdoor track. He ran 12 seasons in all, and 11 were state championships. He has run marathons (most recently in 2010) and half marathons as well as countless races. He is a former Maine state champion in the mile and the two-mile.
Coach Trautz teaches Marine Biology, Science 2, and AP Environmental Science.
The Program
The team won ISL titles in 2010 and 2016. Seven team members have gone on to run cross country in college during Coach Trautz's tenure.

Head Coach
Mr. Trautz teaches Conceptual Physics, Physics, and AP Environmental Science. Mr. Trautz previously served as Department Chair and held the Thomas R. Fuss Chair in Science (2013-2018). This endowed chair which was established in 2007 in memory of Tom Fuss ’07 by his parents, RoseMary and Dan Fuss and honors a faculty member for excellence in the teaching of science and for a broad commitment to students and school life. Mr. is a Form VI advisor and head coach for the Varsity Cross Country team and is an assistant coach of the Varsity Alpine Ski team.

Having received his Ph.D. in English in the spring of 2021 from Tufts University, where he was also a first-year writing program instructor and technology and teaching assistant, Dr. Calloway joins Belmont Hill as a faculty member in the English Department. With extensive experience as a coach of the high school program at Riverside Boat Club and as a member of the varsity rowing team at Dartmouth College (where he received his B.A. in English with honors in 2012), Dr. Calloway will also coach crew. Prior to his time at Tufts University, he worked at the Frederick Gunn School, where he also taught English, and served as both a dorm parent and student advisor.

A graduate of the Belmont Hill School Class of 2016, Mr. DeCaprio joined Belmont Hill in 2020 as an interim teacher in our Science Department. Now a full-time faculty member, Mr. DeCaprio teaches Chemistry, AP Chemistry, and serves as the Director of the Advanced Science Research (ASR) program. He is a Form V Advisor and coaches Middle School Cross Country, Varsity Cross Country, Varsity Nordic Skiing, and Varsity Track. He is also the Assistant Camp Director in our Summer Sport Camps.

Mrs. Gorman joined the Belmont Hill faculty in 2019 from the Lawrence Public Schools where she taught biology, served as a mentor, and coached cross country. In 2017 she was named "Mentor of the Year." Previously, she spent a year with Teach for America. She holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies with a minor in Russian from Dartmouth College where she was a member of the varsity cross country and track teams. At Belmont Hill, Mrs. Gorman teaches Biology, is the Head Form II Advisor, and coaches Cross Country and Track.

Mr. Harder came to Belmont Hill in 2001. He teaches Form I Spanish, Spanish 1 Advanced, Spanish 3 Advanced, and Algebra 2 Advanced. In addition to coaching the Varsity Cross Country team and the Varsity Track team, he is the faculty advisor for the Venture Capital Club. He is a Form II advisor.
