Books
On average a typical student could spend up to $800 on books, depending on his grade level. With this in mind, each financial aid student is provided with a waiver code for our online MBS bookstore that reflects his percentage of aid applied to $800. Books purchased from other vendors will not be covered. (Ex: If a student’s percentage of aid is 75%, he would receive an MBS waiver code for $600.) These waiver codes are sent directly from MBS to parents’ email accounts around August 1. We ask that families order their books during the free shipping windows offered by MBS to minimize cost impacts to the school. If AP or summer reading funds are issued earlier in the summer, they will be deducted from the student's voucher amount. In addition, a selection of donated, gently used textbooks are available in the school library for students to borrow for as long needed during the school year.
School Supplies
School supplies purchased for the enrolled student in the Belmont Hill bookstore will be covered at a student’s percentage of aid. School supplies include pens, notebooks, calculators, required classroom packets, etc. Bookstore and online apparel is not included, nor are items purchased from other vendors (CVS, Target, etc.). Bookstore charges will be reflected on your monthly invoice from the School.
Dress Code
We estimate that on average a typical student could spend up to $400 a year on dress code apparel. With this in mind, we have partnered with Lands End, and each financial aid student is provided with a waiver code that reflects his percentage of aid applied to $400 for Lands End’s custom Belmont Hill website. Apparel purchased from other vendors will not be covered, nor will Holiday Hill or SquadLocker apparel. (Ex: If a student’s percentage of aid is 75%, he would receive a Lands End waiver code for $300.) These waiver codes are sent directly from Lands End to parents' email accounts around August 1. In addition, gently used dress code items are sometimes available in the health office for student use, and the annual Spring Pop-Up sale takes place on campus each April, offering families steeply discounted, gently used school apparel.
Tutoring
Belmont Hill employs professional tutors who work one-on-one with students who are recommended to the School’s Office of Academic Support Services by the faculty. The full cost of this tutoring is included in tuition.
TRANSPORTATION
Public Transportation
In addition to being eligible for S-Cards, which provide all students with discounted fares for all MBTA travel (please see the Main Office), financial aid students who require public transportation to get to and from school each day can request an M7 Card through the Office of Financial Aid by August 1. Requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If issued, the M7 Card will be fully covered by the School. In order to be considered for this benefit, the student must utilize public transportation to commute to and from school each day.
School Bus
Any student may opt to commute to school on a Belmont Hill-sponsored bus. Please see our Bus Transportation Information web page for available routes. The cost for bus transportation is as follows: If a student on financial aid takes bus transportation, his percentage of aid will be applied to the applicable cost outlined above. (Ex: If a student’s percentage of aid is 75% and he takes the bus to and from school each day, a total of $2,850 will be covered.) School bus charges will be reflected on your monthly invoice from the School.
2023-2024 Cost
Monday through Friday, round trip: $3,800
Monday through Friday, one way: $2,700
Monday and Friday only (for boarding students): $750
ATHLETIC
Athletic Fees
Belmont Hill does not add additional annual athletic fee charges beyond tuition. Transportation, lodging, and entry fees for all games and events (if applicable), as well as banquet fees (up to two guests per student), are included in tuition. Additional costs may arise for specific sports, such as individual sports gear (athletic shoes, tennis racquet, hockey stick, etc.).
Required Varsity Team Apparel
All varsity teams have a common package of required apparel billed to their school account. Items vary by sport. This required package will be covered at a student’s percentage of aid. (Ex: If a student’s percentage of aid is 75%, and the varsity apparel package costs $100, a total of $75 will be covered.)
CO-CURRICULAR
On-campus Music Lessons
Private music lessons are available on campus and coordinated through our director of instrumental music. If a student is enrolled in on-campus private music lessons, his percentage of aid will be applied to the cost of those lessons on his monthly invoice from the School. (Ex: If a student's percentage of aid is 75%, and the cost of each 40-minute weekly private music lesson is $40, a total of $30 would be covered.)
Musical Instrument Rentals
Music is an integral part of a student’s time at Belmont Hill. If he is interested in playing a musical instrument and does not have access to his instrument of choice, he should contact the Office of Financial Aid. Belmont Hill partners with Johnson Strings and Leonards Music to provide students with a rented instrument, billed at their percentage of aid. (Ex: If a student’s percentage of aid is 75%, and the cost of instrument rental is $300 annually, a total of $225 would be covered.)
Art Fees
Belmont Hill does not add additional annual art fee charges beyond tuition. All art supplies are included unless a student in an independent study elects to use supplies beyond those provided by the program.
Community Service Participation Accounts
A Community Service Participation Account is available annually to each student receiving financial aid, in the amount of his percentage of financial aid x $100. (Ex: If a student's percentage of aid is 75%, he would receive $75 to spend over the course of the academic year.) This account can be used toward items sold through student billing in support of such community service efforts as Think Pink and Party With a Purpose. This account provides support for financial aid students to fully participate in our campus culture of community service while learning habits of giving and budgeting, and as such it cannot be used for cash transactions, withdrawn, rolled over, transferred, or used for campus shopping (such as Holiday Hill or Squad Locker).
COLLEGE PROCESS
AP Testing Fees
Testing Fees to register for AP exam(s) will be covered at a student's percentage of aid. (Ex: if a student's percentage of aid is 75%, and the testing fee is $94, a total of $70.50 would be covered.) Test fee charges will be reflected on your monthly invoice from the school.
College Test Prep
College test prep will be covered for Form V (juniors) at a student's percentage of aid. Belmont Hill partners with Advantage Testing, which runs an ACT/SAT prep class on campus on Sunday nights starting in late fall. See also Belmont Hill Summer School and College Search, below, for alternate options.
College Search
Thanks to the Belmont Hill Diversity Initiative Fund, each student on financial aid will receive funds in the spring of his junior year that can be used toward a range of costs specifically associated with the college visitation/search and application process. This might include college-related travel for the student and his parents/guardians (airfare/hotel/car rental), ACT/SAT tutoring, application fees, athletic recruiting camps, etc., though it cannot be used for deposit/enrollment fees at any college. Families will be mailed a Visa prepaid card that is funded in an amount equal to their percentage of aid applied to $2,000 (for example, a student on 75% financial aid will receive a card funded at $1,500) to support their work with the college counseling office as they determine how best to meet their goals in the college search process.
FORM VI (SENIOR YEAR)
Graduation Apparel
During a student’s Form VI year, his percentage of aid will be applied to an additional $70 of Dress Code Expenses to be used on the Lands End/Belmont Hill custom website. See Dress Code Expenses for more details.
Prom Tickets (2)
Up to two tickets to the Belmont Hill prom will be covered at the senior student’s percentage of aid. (Ex: If a student’s percentage of aid is 75%, and 2 prom tickets cost $200, a total of $150 will be covered.)
Prom Tuxedo
The cost of a pre-approved tuxedo rental for the Belmont Hill prom will be covered at the senior student’s percentage of aid. (Ex: If a student’s percentage of aid is 75%, and tuxedo rental costs $150, a total of $112.50 will be covered.)
Yearbook
One yearbook will be covered at a senior student’s percentage of aid. (Ex: If a student’s percentage of aid is 75%, and the yearbook costs $80, a total of $60 will be covered.)
STUDENT TRIPS
Global/Group Trips
Group trips are an important opportunity for all students at Belmont Hill. If a student is eligible for trip funding, the trip’s cost will be covered at his percentage of aid. Costs of group trips vary. (Ex: If a student’s percentage of aid is 75%, and the group trip cost is $1,800, a total of $1,350 would be covered.) An exception to this is the annual Kenney Legacy Trip, which is fully covered for all selected students. Click here for more details.
Global Experiences include Study Away opportunities, which allow students to study off-campus for a semester or a year, both domestically and abroad. School-granted tuition assistance will be applied to the cost of Belmont Hill Study Away programs listed in the Student-Parent Handbook.
Academic Field Trips
Students will take a number of field trips with their classes during their time at Belmont Hill. These trips are all fully included in tuition.
Orientation
Each year, our students embark on orientation trips during their first week of school. The cost of these trips is fully included in tuition.
