The Makerspace brings hands-on innovation into the classroom, offering year-round courses led by the Director and integrating cutting-edge technology across campus. Students can explore design, engineering, fabrication, robotics, and media production while developing real-world skills in problem solving, collaboration, and creative thinking.

Makerspace-Led Courses

  • Intro to Engineering (Form 3 Science Elective)
    Introduces students to Needs-Based Problem Solving and the Engineering Design Process. Students explore all the Maker technology through projects and assignments, turning ideas into functional prototypes.

  • Advanced Engineering and Design (U.S. Art and Science Elective)
    Combines a hands-on, studio-style approach with a deeper dive into engineering principles and advanced rapid prototyping techniques.

Cross-Campus Collaborations

Makerspace expertise extends into traditional classes, giving students opportunities to enhance projects across disciplines. Collaborations scheduled for 2025–26 include:

  • English: My Name Podcasts; Lord of the Flies Character Podcasts; Odyssey Boardgames and Lost Comic Panels; Handmaid’s Tale “Develop Your Own Dystopian World”

  • World Languages: Chinese 1 & 2 – Chinese Name Imagery; French – Shape Poems

  • Art & Photography: Building a 16×20 Ultra Large Format Box Camera

  • Latin: Alpha – Roman Villas; 2A – Caesar Video Projects; 5 – Bayeux Tapestry Projects

  • Science & Engineering: Conceptual Physics – 3D Modeling for Toboggan Design; Conceptual Physics – Boats (co-taught); Chemistry project (in development); Advanced Engineering/Matt Conway – Narrative Design Project

  • Clubs & Special Projects: MS Sustainability Club – Vertical Farm Project (early planning); OASS Study Skills Project

These courses and collaborations ensure that the Makerspace is not just a facility but a living part of the academic experience, accessible to every student and enriching learning across disciplines.
