History
At Belmont Hill, we value the study of History as an opportunity to develop national and global awareness, as well as critical historical thinking and argumentation skills. The study of a broad range of historical subjects and the analysis of multiple perspectives are integral in fostering an environment where our students can strengthen their understanding and develop their own unique viewpoints. Our department utilizes a variety of sources and methodologies that allows our students to master content knowledge in order to formulate and assess evidence-based arguments. Students are encouraged to cultivate their own voice in our discussion-based classes and draw on their connections to our shared history. The program offers a balance of required and elective courses, as well as a robust offering of advanced courses to meet every student’s level of intellectual curiosity. The curriculum consistently offers students opportunities to advance their reading comprehension, perform independent research, and present logical arguments--both oral and written. Our passionate and knowledgeable faculty work with students to provide the historical context underlying today’s conflicts and crises and give students a platform to research the genesis and causation of these issues. Students are given the tools necessary to become active and informed members of our society today.
