Prep Prospect Baseball

A three-day showcase for middle school and high school athletes (ages 12-15) who aspire to play at the varsity level, led by Belmont Hill Varsity Baseball Coach Dave Cunningham '12 and New England Baseball Journal's John McGuirk.

THE PROGRAM:

Featuring focused instruction from highly decorated high school and college coaches, and exposure to the showcase experience, Prep Prospect Baseball helps develop each player’s skillset and prepare them for the next level of competition. Following the program, each participant will receive a detailed evaluation sheet from the coaching staff, offering thorough insights into the player’s strengths and areas of emphasis for improvement.

The program also includes free, optional opportunities to learn more about private school and the student-athlete experience at Belmont Hill.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE (JUNE 16-18)

Day One: The Showcase

After starting the day with drills, each athlete will participate in an individualized showcase of their measurables, from to speed times, to swings, to infield and outfield velocity, and more.
Day Two: Advanced Skill Development

Working closely with the program’s elite coaching staff and counselors, the athletes will receive detailed instruction in all areas of play including pitching, hitting, baserunning, infield, outfield, and situational play.

Day Three: Games For the final day, student-athletes will play in full, umpired games to be filmed on HUDL and made available to parents.

ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES:

Highlight Video Ad On: Receive professionally edited and individualized video from your player’s showcase to be used for private school recruiting packages.  The final highlight video will feature positional reps such as swings, ground balls, fly balls, throws, infield and outfield velocity, and batting exit velocity. Pitchers can also receive film of bullpen session highlights with velocity statistics. Video could include in-game footage based on access to quality in-game play.

Thinking About Private School Presentation: Students and parents are invited to stay following the second day of the program for “Thinking About Private School”. MEET THE COACHES

Varsity Head Coach Dave Cunningham: In his first season as head coach in 2023, Cunningham led Belmont Hill to the school’s 17th ISL title. Overall, he has amassed a 40-21 record, including a 30-12 mark in conference play, good for a .714 winning percentage. In addition to the team’s success, he has overseen 17 college commitments during his short tenure, including eight to Division I programs.

Prior to being appointed head coach, Cunningham served as Belmont Hill’s varsity hitting coach and catcher’s coach for three seasons. He held those same titles for the Williston-Northhampton School and Amherst College, where he was also a Recruiting Coordinator. Along with his experience at the high school and college level, Cunningham made multiple stops coaching in the club baseball circuit as well.

As a player, Cunningham earned All-NESCAC honors and a Gold Glove award at Amherst College while helping the Mammoths to three NCAA Regional Finals and a NESCAC Championship. A 2012 Belmont Hill graduate, he was a two-time First Team All-ISL selection, the 2011 ISL MVP, and captain of the ISL championship team his senior year. To this day, he owns the School's single-season batting average record of .560.

When not on the diamond, Cunningham teaches in the English department and coaches at various levels in the School’s hockey program. In recognition of his impact on students, Cunningham currently holds the Centennial Chair in Character, an honor bestowed on the faculty member who most exemplifies the School's mission of developing young men of character in multiple ways.

John McGuirk: With nearly three decades of coaching experience at the high school and collegiate levels, McGuirk is now an author for the New England Baseball Journal, specializing in prep baseball coverage and scouting. As a coach, McGuirk spent a decade as the head coach of Fitchburg State College and six years as an assistant at Tufts University. Prior to those positions he was the varsity head coach of North Middlesex Regional High School and Nashoba Regional High School. At the New England Baseball Journal, McGuirk uses his incredible experience and eye for talent to identify and shine a light on the region's latest crop of top tier talent.

Staff: Coaches Cunningham and McGuirk will be joined by a group of experienced varsity and collegiate baseball players as counselors. These athletes will work with the prospects while setting an example of the type of ball players they aspire to become.
