Winter Play Shows off Collaborative Spirit

Winter Play Shows off Collaborative Spirit

On February 6 and 7, actors from Belmont Hill and Winsor showed their range in the Kraft Theater with two lively performances of Eight Plays But Who’s Counting?, a series of poignant and hilarious one-acts. Open to actors of all grade levels and touching on a variety of genres, the show brought together students with a range of experience, from advanced actors in their thirteenth production to those in their debut performance.

For Chair of the Performing Arts Paul DiResta, who directed the production, opportunities for collaboration between grade levels that might not happen in other areas of school life is part of the appeal of the All School show.  “Throughout the process, I've been most impressed by the incredible mentorship our more experienced Belmont Hill and Winsor actors and technicians have offered to our newer cast and crew–helping cue them on a forgotten line, pumping them up before their scene, or offering a constructive and encouraging word when something goes awry.”

Reflecting on the two shows, Mr. DiResta was inspired by the students’ hard work behind-the-scenes, and optimistic that that inspiration would spread throughout the School community. “It's incredibly heartening to see this cast and crew create something so meaningful, hilarious and magical out of some words on a piece of paper. They are the true storytellers. I'm so proud of the unique worlds and characters they've brought to life, and ultimately, my hope is that their performance inspires more of their classmates and friends to try theatre, and become confident, expressive and authentic public speakers themselves!”
