Will Trautz ’27 Named League MVP in Remarkable Cross Country Season

Belmont Hill sophomore Will Trautz, of Bedford, MA, has etched his name into the school's athletic history books this fall, delivering a truly extraordinary cross country season that culminated in his selection as the Globe All-Scholastic Independent School League (ISL) Most Valuable Player.

Will's tremendous performance included an undefeated ISL season, becoming the first athlete since 2017 to also claim the league championship. His dominance was evident throughout the season, as he shattered three ISL course records:

- 16:50 at Brooks, breaking the previous record by 22 seconds
- 16:46 at the St. Sebastian's course, improving on the prior mark by 40 seconds
- 15:19 at the BB&N Fresh Pond Course, demolishing the previous record by 43 seconds

His outstanding achievements extend beyond course records. Will was named Globe All-Scholastic, earned All-ISL and All-NEPSAC honors, and secured an impressive 11th place at the NEPSAC Championship. He was also awarded the Cross Country Award by Belmont Hill coaches, recognizing his exceptional contribution to the team. Last June Will finished in 8th place at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon in the Freshman Mile (4:26.17). He has his sights set on earning a qualifying time for the Nike Outdoor National Championship Race this spring.

“It was incredibly exciting to watch Will race this fall,” said Coach Jake DeCaprio ’16. “His success this season was a testament to his unwavering focus and determination to take care of the small things that ensured he could perform at his best in each race. Will's performance and trajectory over the last several seasons have been nothing short of remarkable, and his achievements in the sport have been earned through hard work. Not only is Will a great runner himself, but he is also an excellent leader and teammate. He sets the standard for commitment to our sport and is always encouraging his peers to push themselves to the next level; it is no surprise to me that he was elected captain for next year.”
