Track Team Breaks School’s 4 x 100m Relay Record

Track Team Breaks School’s 4 x 100m Relay Record

During a home meet on April 26, the varsity track team outpaced the competition from visiting sprinters and Belmont Hill’s own storied history, breaking the School’s record in the 4 x 100m relay.

The new School record of 43.31 FAT was set by sprinters Blake DaCosta ‘26, Luis Kuehberger ‘25, Ross McKee ‘25, and Ashton Cruz ‘25. This new mark edges past the previous record of 43.46, set in 2011 by David Alexander ‘12, Isiah Robinson ‘13, Michael Minahan ‘12, and Zachary Williams ‘11.

“It’s always an accomplishment to break a record in a track or field even but to break a relay record just demonstrates the strength and depth to the team,” Head Coach Maya Gorman said. “It takes four fast runners who have to work together to perfect their timing and hand offs to shave off milliseconds.”

The cohesion of the record setting quartet is all the more impressive considering it was not the planned lineup. “We had a last minute injury, so the team was made up of three senior veterans and a junior who stepped up at the last second.”

While the team no doubt celebrated this achievement, Coach Gorman noted that their attention soon turned to the races still to come. “The boys were excited to break the record and are already working towards breaking it again at the ISL or New England meet!”
