This year marked the 13th year of the Thanksgiving Dinner Drive—which will probably always be known as the "Turkey Drive" even if the turkeys were replaced with grocery store gift cards. Belmont Hill successfully delivered meal boxes and gift cards to 497 families in need.
Our ability to help out local families rests on our entire community to commit to bringing in the necessary donations and to allow Form III students the time to work on the project. Thank you to all the parents, students, faculty, and staff who made a point of supporting this project.
Since Mr. Trautz brought the first Turkey Drive to Belmont Hill in 2010, quality and the dignity of a carefully assembled set of ingredients has always been the priority. The volume of meals is secondary, though we are grateful that, for many years now, we have been able to help out an average of 450 families each November.
Below is a video of the steps Form III students take to bring this project to fruition: creating the cardboard boxes, sorting the food, assembling the meal boxes, and then bringing the boxes out for parent volunteers to drive to various partner organizations. Each meal kit contains stuffing, gravy, potatoes, canned vegetables, yams, cranberry sauce, and a grocery store gift card to purchase a turkey.
