Spring Musical Shines in Sold Out Shows

Spring Musical Shines in Sold Out Shows
On May 14 and 15, actors from Belmont Hill and Winsor put on rousing performances of Newsies for this year’s spring musical. Over the course of two sold out shows in Kraft Theater, the boys brought new life and energy to the famed play depicting the New York City newsboy strike of 1899.

For director and faculty member Daniel Fulham, the themes of the musical capture what made the Belmont Hill production such a memorable experience behind the scenes. “Newsies, fundamentally, is a show about unity in the face of a challenge,” Mr. Fulham said. “Fittingly, throughout our rehearsal process, no matter how the day had gone for the cast and crew before arriving in the theater, students brought enthusiasm, discipline, talent, and teamwork.”

Mr. Fulham saw the success of both performances over the weekend as a reflection of the culture built by the actors and crew members who worked tirelessly for the show and for one another. With the musical featuring participants of all grade levels, that culture will be alive and well when the Kraft Theater lights come back on in the fall. “I am incredibly proud of the boys’ contribution to drama at Belmont Hill, and I am excited to see the program continue to grow in the years ahead.”

While the Landau Gallery was filled with incredible works in pottery, drawing, painting, photography, and woodworking, Visual Arts Chair Dan Duarte was most impressed by the commitment required from each student to reach that finished product.
