Spring Concert Caps Off Incredible Year of Music

Spring Concert Caps Off Incredible Year of Music
The final stretch of the school year provides ample opportunities for the boys of Belmont Hill to see the payoff for their tireless work on campus. For the students who have been honing their musical talents in the Prenatt Music Center, that culminating moment came on the evening of May 12 for the annual Spring Concert.

"Congratulations to our talented musicians for their year-end performance!” said Director of Instrumental Music Dan Fiori. “This evening was an opportunity to hear the fruits of all the hard work these boys have put in this year, as well as celebrate our graduating senior musicians as they get ready to head off to their next musical endeavors."

Led by Director of Music Donnell Patterson and Mr. Fiori, the program gave each musical group on campus an opportunity to shine. With performances from the Orchestra, B-Flats, the Middle and Upper School Jazz Ensembles, and the Middle School Rock Band, over 70 students performed throughout the evening, covering musical eras and genres spanning from Tchaikovsky to Bruno Mars.

A few days after the concert, the musicians performed an impressive selection of pieces during Community Block for the entire school to enjoy. The final notes of the year in music were left for the Middle School Rock Band, whose rapturous rendition of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird” brought the entire Chapel to its feet.

When Belmont Hill faculty members take advantage of the teaching sabbaticals offered after ten years of service, some use the time away from the classroom to travel, work towards advanced degrees, or even enjoy a well earned opportunity to relax. Director of Instrumental Music Dan Fiori took a different approach in 2023 and spent the year immersed in the composing and recording of his debut jazz fusion album Undertow. The record, which was released in May and is available digitally and on vinyl, demonstrates the vast breadth of Mr. Fiori’s musical influences and the level of talent guiding Belmont Hill musicians on their own creative journeys.
