Awards Chapel Celebrates Spring Athletic Achievements
Belmont Hill’s spring athletics season wrapped up an impressive 2026 campaign with the annual Athletic Awards Chapel recognizing team accomplishments, individual excellence, and sportsmanship across all levels of play. From league and New England honors to special team trophies, the presentation in Hamilton Chapel highlighted the dedication, improvement, and leadership shown by student-athletes in baseball, crew, golf, lacrosse, sailing, tennis, and track and field.  

BASEBALL

Langdon Prouty Jr. Base Running Trophy

Presented annually to that player who displays the highest skill in running the bases. 

2026 Winner: Charles Rubel

Baseball Plaque
Awarded each spring to the player who has shown the greatest improvement in baseball.

2026 Winners: Luke Waldeck, Eric Willi

Baseball Coaches’ Trophy
Presented to that individual who has made the greatest contribution to the varsity team.

2026 Winners: Jack Tarbox, Cam Kelley


CREW 

Most Improved Rower Award 

Proposed by the varsity coaches and approved by the Athletic Policy Committee in 2007, this award is given to that boy who has made the most significant improvement in rowing on the varsity crew team.

2026 Winner: Johannes Eikeboom


Phillip Stewart Burbank Memorial Crew Trophy
Presented in memory of their son, Phillip Stewart Burbank, Class of 1941, by his parents for the greatest contribution to crew.

2026 Winner: Tyler Smith
 

GOLF 

The Inspirational Player Award

Approved by the Athletic Policy Committee in 2002, this award is given to that boy whose consistent and steady golf play provided inspiration to his team.

2026 Winner: Joseph Monahan

Golf Coach’s Trophy
Presented for the greatest contribution to the golf team.

2026 Winner: Doran Gibbs
 

LACROSSE 

Lacrosse Most Improved Player Award

Given to the player who has shown the greatest improvement during the season

2026 Winner: Finn Kilbride

Lacrosse Alumni Award
Given by the 1997 varsity lacrosse team, this award is presented to that individual who has made the greatest contribution to the varsity lacrosse team.

2026 Winners: Louie Marobella, Dylan Casillo, Trey Clayton

SAILING 

Most Improved Sailing Award
Approved by the Athletic Policy Committee in 2009, this award is given to that boy who has made the most significant improvement in sailing on the varsity sailing team.
2026 Winner: Ilan Turevskiy
 
The Sailing Trophy
Awarded for the greatest contribution to the sport of sailing.

2026 Winner: James Chaytors

TENNIS 

The Tennis Award
Presented to the most improved player on the varsity team. 

2026 Winner: Riaan Shah

Tennis Coach’s Trophy

Given anonymously, this trophy goes to the player who, in the opinion of the coach, has made the greatest contribution to the sport.

2026 Winner: Morgan Rich

TRACK & FIELD

Track Coaches Trophy 

Awarded to that athlete, who in the judgment of the coaches, has made the greatest improvement on the varsity track team.

2026 Winner: Nicholas Fiumara

John W. Fisher Trophy
Mr. Fisher was the founder of Belmont Hill Track and he coached varsity track for more than 30 years. This trophy was given in his memory by his loving wife, Madge, and his sons. The trophy is awarded to that young man, who in the judgment of the coaches, has made the greatest improvement.

HENRY B. SAWYER SPORTSMANSHIP AWARDS
The Henry B. Sawyer awards were suggested by the school senate and approved by the athletic committee in 1987. These sportsmanship awards recognize Mr. Sawyer’s 62 years of service to the school. These awards are presented seasonally by sport to “the ideal sportsman whose emotions are controlled by a genuine love and respect for his fellow man as well as the game.

RECOGNITION OF OTHER SPRING ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Tennis
The third tennis team completed a remarkable season with an overall record of 9 wins and 2 losses.  The doubles team of Jiajia Chen and Daniel Laird went undefeated on the season with a record of 8-0.  Congratulations to the 3rd tennis team and coaches Montanaro and Rupley.
 
The JV tennis team had an excellent season with an overall record of 12 wins and 5 losses. Congratulations to Coach Harvey, Coach McNamara, and the JV tennis team.
 
The varsity tennis team has had an outstanding season thus far with a record of 14 wins and 4 losses with one match remaining. They qualified for the NEPSAC Class A Tournament where THEY lost a hard-fought quarter final match to Nobles. Congratulations and good luck to Coach Speer, Coach Palanjian, and the varsity tennis team in their final match.
 
Baseball 
The fifth baseball team completed an excellent season with a record of 8 wins, 4 losses, and 1 tie, including big wins over rivals Roxbury Latin and St. Sebastian’s. Congratulations to coaches Coppedge, McAlpin, and Nathan with a special shoutout to Coach McAlpin who ends his long tenure as 5th baseball coach and 41 years of service to Belmont Hill athletics with a great season.
 
The varsity baseball team has had an outstanding season with an overall record of 19 wins and 4 losses. They posted an ISL regular season record of 10 wins and 1 loss which qualified them for the ISL Championship Tournament as the #1 seed. In the Tournament, they lost a tough quarterfinal game to Tabor Academy. Congratulations to the varsity baseball team and coaches Cunningham, Danchik, Antetomaso, and Espelin
 
Crew
The third crew team capped off a great season of rowing with a dominant performance against Fessenden earlier this week. Congratulations to coaches Lopez, McDougal, McKiernan, Mezzanotte, and senior coaches Achtmeyer, Curtis, Flood, Saeed, Smith, and Snail.
 
The varsity crew team has had a great spring season. From the 1V4 to the 9V4, the crews trained hard, gained speed, and raced successfully. The Varsity fours head to Lake Quinsigamond for the NEIRA Championships on Saturday with two first and two second seeds and the goal of winning a fourth-consecutive New England team championship; with a strong performance, the first boat hopes to qualify for Youth Nationals in Sarasota in mid-June. Congratulations and good luck this weekend to the team and coaches Richards, George, Stone, Sampson, and Parker.
 
Lacrosse
The third lacrosse team completed an exceptional season with a record of 15 wins and 1 loss. Congratulations to coaches Smith, Phinney, and Fast and the 3rd lacrosse team.

The JV lacrosse team had an excellent season with a record of 9 wins and 5 losses. Congratulations to coaches Sullivan, and Zellner, and the JV lacrosse team.  

The varsity lacrosse team completed a great season with a record 10 wins and 7 losses.  They qualified as the #5 seed in the ISL Championship tournament, where they defeated the #4 seed, Nobles, in the quarterfinals, before falling to eventual champion, Tabor in the semifinals. Congratulations to the varsity lacrosse team and coaches Sullivan, Butler, Hargrove, Fahey, Palanjian, Richards, O’Connell, and Morrissey.  
  
Sailing
The sailing team has had an outstanding year competing in Mass Bay League's A-Division.  There they finished the team-racing regular season in third place, setting themselves up for the postseason tournament. Over the course of an eight-hour day in Duxbury Bay, the team battled their way to a second place finish, losing to Hingham in the Championship Round. This week, the team competed in the League's Fleet Racing Championship:  The Carl Zimba Regatta. Over the course of two days on the Charles, James Chaytors, and Panos Gianoukos won the A Division Championship while Roger Wellington and Ilan Turevskiy matched the accomplishment, winning the B Division.  Today, the same squad plus Brendan Kilpatrick head to MIT to defend last year's State Championship. Congratulations to coaches Creedon and Goldberg and the varsity sailing team on a great season thus far; good luck today! I ask the captains to come forward and present their championship trophies.
 
Golf
The JV golf team completed an undefeated season with a record of 8 wins and 1 tie. Congratulations to Coach Duarte and the JV Golf team.
 
The varsity golf team completed a championship season with a record of 14 wins, 2 losses, and 2 ties.  They won the ISL Walworth-Sullivan championship as co-champions with Tabor Academy. They followed that up with a 3rd place finish at the ISL Kingman Tournament on Monday at Renaissance Golf Club. Congratulations to Coach Doar and the varsity golf team.  
 
Track
The third track team has had an excellent season thus far with a record of 6 wins and 4 losses. They head to St. Johns Prep today for their final meet of the season. Congratulations and good luck to the third track team and coaches Holland and O’Connor.

The varsity track team had yet another outstanding championship season finishing the season with 13 wins and 5 losses in dual meet competition. The team captured the ISL Championship at Belmont Hill by three and a half points over Roxbury Latin. They followed that up with a 6th place finish at the Class A, New England Championship this past weekend at Choate.  Congratulations to the varsity track team and coaches Harder, DeCaprio, Kirby, Messina, and Fowler.  I ask the captain to come forward and present the ISL Championship trophy.

I would also like to recognize one athlete from the varsity track team who broke a school record this past season: Justin Li in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.88 seconds.

Spring Art Show Demonstrates the Power of Patience

As the school year came to a close, visual arts students had one final opportunity to show off the results of their creativity, passion, and hard work in the Spring Art Show. While the Landau Gallery was filled with incredible works in pottery, drawing, painting, photography, and woodworking, Visual Arts Chair Dan Duarte was most impressed by the commitment required from each student to reach that finished product.
