Robotics Teams Qualify for World Championships

Over the weekend of February 22-23, the Belmont Hill Robotics teams competed in the V5RC Massachusetts High School State Championships. Over two grueling days of tournament competition, the teams successfully earned multiple qualifications to the upcoming VEX Robotics World Championship.

The Form III team, 35075X, reached the Round of 16 and achieved a personal best score in the Robot Skills competition, ending their season ranked in the top 20 teams in the state.

For the third straight year, the top Middle School team, 35075A, qualified for the World Championship. Over the course of the weekend, the team bested their competitors and earned the illustrious Excellence Award, the highest honor at the State Championship.

For the first time in the program’s history, the Upper School team, 35075B, qualified for the World Championship. Team members Brendan Kilpatrick and Ryan Chang-Wu previously reached this milestone as part of the Middle School team. Along with earning the qualification, the team received the Think Award which recognizes the most effective and consistent use of coding techniques and programming design solutions to solve the game challenge. The judges were impressed with the complexity and creativity of the team's code, as well as their ability to document and discuss its development in multiple team interviews.

Best of luck to both teams as they travel to Dallas in May for the World Championship.
