Josh Baldwin ’22 Hits 1000-Point Milestone

Josh Baldwin ’22 Hits 1000-Point Milestone

On Monday, January 23, Josh Baldwin ’22 muscled his way past defenders, scoring a basket early in the game.  It was a milestone for Josh, as it marked his 1000th point in his Belmont Hill varsity basketball career. Play was stopped after the basket, and Josh was given a special basketball marking the achievement, which he presented to his family. That Belmont Hill would go on to capture a thrilling double-overtime victory over Milton Academy made it all the more special.

Coach Corey Cofield was thrilled with Josh’s accomplishment. "Josh is a natural leader who makes everyone around him better,” he said. He noted that Josh’s work ethic and effort each day, whether in practice or in games, are infectious and speak to his drive and desire to be great. “Reaching 1000 points is a special moment for any basketball player and I couldn't be happier for what he has accomplished.” Coach Cofield also notes that he has known Josh since teaching him in Form II Latin class and that his growth both on and off the court has been exciting to watch. “Josh's ability to play at such a high level on defense as well as offense puts him in an elite category and ultimately cements his position as one of the best basketball players to ever compete for Belmont Hill. Tremendous accomplishment #24, I'm so proud of you!"

For Josh, it was a particularly rewarding achievement. “Playing for Belmont Hill has been a remarkable journey,” he said. “We’ve had our ups and downs, but this milestone just represents the culmination for this group we have. We’ve come from the bottom and now have climbed our way to the top. This milestone for me just represents what we’ve been through together. It was a special moment for me and being able to have all the people that I love there, made it all the better. It will be a memory I cherish forever.”

Josh will take his considerable talent to Cornell University next year to play for the Big Red.
