Jason Hurd '90 honored with MAP Award for Dedicated Leadership

Jason Hurd '90 honored with MAP Award for Dedicated Leadership

On October 19, 2024, Belmont Hill School held its annual Multicultural Alumni Partnership (MAP) Award Dinner, honoring Jason Hurd '90, a founding member and long-standing supporter of the MAP initiative. The evening featured a student performance and was attended by parents, alumni, Board members, and members of Mr. Hurd’s family. The event celebrated Mr. Hurd's dedication to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion at Belmont Hill as well as his continued service on the School’s Board of Trustees.

Before the dinner, a special MAP Fellowship program brought students together to engage in discussions and forge connections. During the formal program, Emmett Lyne '77 shared remarks written by Greg Schneider expressing his deep gratitude for Mr. Hurd’s role in shaping the MAP initiative and his broader contributions to the school as a Trustee, including his efforts to launch the Diversity Initiative Fund in 2020. “We continue to benefit from this support today. Jason has also helped me think through ways to broaden our affinity groups, to support our faculty, and to strengthen our college process for all of our boys. He has always been someone who seems to balance what is great about our school with what we need to do to evolve in the spirit of supporting our boys more comprehensively.”

In presenting the award, MAP Director Will Forde ’05 praised Mr. Hurd’s leadership, noting how he helped establish MAP in 2008 alongside former faculty member Kai Bynum. He emphasized that Mr. Hurd’s contributions, including his family's transformational gift to the Diversity Initiative Fund, have had a lasting impact on the school community. “It’s hard to think that if it weren’t for the actions of a small group of people, including Jason, we wouldn’t be here tonight and this work might not have happened. Jason, MAP and its impact on our school and future generations of Belmont Hill alumni, is part of your legacy.”

Messages of gratitude, praise, and congratulations were also formally given by Board President Jon Biotti '87 and Director of Community and Diversity Caleb Collins '93 at the dinner.
