Greg Dayton ’83 Discusses the Songwriting Process and Performs

Speaking virtually to students during a School Meeting, accomplished musician Greg Dayton ’83 spoke to students about his new album, “Sailing for the Sun,” and the songwriting process. He also played two solo versions from the album, “Change Your Ways,” and “Catch Me Cryin’.”

Mr. Dayton listed his influences as Jim Croce, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, The Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, James Taylor, Jackson Browne, and Cat Stevens. He also explained concepts such as collaborating, hooks, and song form.

He taught music at Belmont Hill from 1999 to 2003, and has performed, recorded, and taught across the United States and in Europe for over 30 years. In the summer of 2016, he was inducted as a “Great Blues Artist” into the New York Blues Hall of Fame.
