Giacomo Kaplan '25 Glides Past 1,000 Career Points
In the first half of a game that went down to the wire on Friday, February 21, Giacomo Kaplan ‘25 drove past a Middlesex defender, absorbed contact, and finished a difficult reverse layup. It was the type of play Giacomo has made countless times in the Fritz Gym, but carried an extra level of significance as it pushed him past 1,000 points for his Belmont Hill career.
The milestone is but one moment of an impressive four years on varsity. “It feels like just yesterday I was a freshman on the team looking up to the seniors and all the success that they were having,” Giacomo said. “I wanted to leave a legacy behind and to now look back and be able to say I accomplished a lot of the goals I had set back then, such as scoring 1,000 points, is special.”
Head Coach Corey Cofield was not surprised to see Giacomo leave an indelible stamp on the program. "It has been a pleasure to work with Giacomo since he joined the team in the 2021-22 season. From the very first time I saw him play, I knew he was going to be a special player, particularly from behind the 3-point arc.”
Alongside his skills as a sharpshooter, Giacomo is known as a true student of the game. “He values every moment in the gym as an opportunity to refine his craft,” Mr. Cofield said. “Giacomo is the type of player whom you have to guard as soon as he steps on the floor because he is just that dangerous of an offensive player.”
For Giacomo, scoring 1,000 points was the direct result of the time spent in the gym, and those who were with him along the way. “It is a testament to all the work and dedication I have put in and the support my coaches and teammates have provided throughout my time here.”
Giacomo will continue his basketball career next year at Emory College.
