Form III Interdisciplinary Day Blends History and Science
On April 13, Form III students participated in the annual Interdisciplinary Day where combined programming from the History and Science Departments created an opportunity for more focused learning and collaboration. Spearheaded by faculty members from both departments, the day’s workshops delved into issues related to sustainability, their historical contexts, and the global impacts felt as a result.
After presentations from teachers John McAlpin and Glenn Harvey, students broke out into smaller groups across campus. The third formers discussed their assigned reading from A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park, and researched possible technological solutions to specific challenges raised by sustainability issues. After presenting their solutions, the boys competed in a mock “Shark Tank” to identify which breakthroughs seemed the most promising and practical.
The day concluded in the Wadsworth room, as faculty members turned the immense material covered into actionable differences students can make in their everyday lives.

On the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the Belmont Hill community gathered for a morning Chapel to remember the event through history, poetry, and heartfelt reflection.

As the new school year formally kicked off in Hamilton Chapel on Tuesday morning, the students weren’t the only ones who arrived having done their summer reading. In his annual opening Chapel Talk, Greg Schneider, Ronald M. Druker ’62 Head of School, used his love for literature to encourage the boys to seize the opportunities awaiting them in the months ahead.

Following a comprehensive national search, Belmont Hill has appointed Amos Gilbert as the new Head Varsity Lacrosse Coach. Prior to his arrival in Massachusetts, Mr. Gilbert coached the Steamboat Springs High School lacrosse team, guiding the program to two league championships.

The Belmont Voice honored John McAlpin with a retrospective celebrating his incredible 40-year career as a Belmont Hill teacher and coach. While Mr. McAlpin retired this spring, he remains a resident of the town of Belmont and a dedicated member of the community, where he has long shown the same values of selflessness and stewardship that he brought to the Hill.
