Fall Athletic Accomplishments Recognized in School Meeting


Athletic Director George Tahan presented the winners of the fall varsity athletic awards and celebrated team accomplishments in school meeting this morning. The chapel began with the reading of the fall letter winners by the current captains, announcing the names of next year's team captains. A recording of the school meeting can be viewed below. 
 

 

CROSS COUNTRY


The Cross Country Award is presented to that team member who has been the most valuable performer this year.

A second trophy is presented to that boy who has made the most significant improvement in cross country as judged by the coaches.

FOOTBALL  


The Dr. Robert Saterlee Hurlbut Memorial Football Trophy 
This trophy is presented in memory of Dr. Robert Saterlee Hurlbut Class of 1929 by Dr. Hurlbut's widow, Mrs. Sally Baldwin. It is given to the player who in the judgement of the coaches has made the greatest improvement in the sport.

The William E. Croke Trophy
The William E. Croke Trophy is given in honor of Bill Croke who served as athletic director for 37 years. He served Belmont Hill school with loyalty and effectiveness and was respected and loved by all. This trophy is awarded to the player who in the judgement of the coaches was the most valuable player.

SOCCER 


The Soccer Trophy is presented to the soccer player who in the judgement of his coaches has made the greatest improvement in the sport this year.

2021 Recipient Kailen Richards '22


The Soccer Coaches’ Trophy is awarded annually to that player who has made the greatest contribution to the varsity soccer team.

HENRY B. SAWYER SPORTSMANSHIP AWARDS


The Henry B. Sawyer Jr. '32 awards were suggested by the School Senate and approved by the Athletic Committee in 1987. These sportsmanship awards recognize Mr. Sawyer’s 52 years of service to the school. 
These awards are presented seasonally by sport to “the ideal sportsman whose emotions are controlled by a genuine love and respect for his fellow man as well as the game.

OTHER FALL ACCOMPLISHMENTS

 
 
Football

The JV Football team completed a terrific season with a record of 4 wins and 1 loss. Congratulations to the JV football team and coaches LaLiberte, Sullivan, and Anderson.

The 3rd Football team completed an outstanding season with a record of 6 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie. Congratulations to the 3rd football team and coaches Zellner, Collins, and Pare.
 
The 4th Football team completed a remarkable season with an overall record of 5 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie. They were able to avenge their one loss to St. Sebastian’s by beating them 29 to 14 in their rematch. Congratulations to coaches C. Sweeney, T. Davis, and Williams and the 4th football team. 
 
Soccer

The 4th Soccer team captured the Belmont Cup by defeating the Town of Belmont Middle School team 5 to 2. Congratulations to coaches George, McDonald, Calloway, and Vasiliadis and the 4th soccer team.

The 3rd A Soccer team completed an outstanding season with an overall record of 10 wins, 1 loss, and 2 ties. Congratulations to the 3rd A soccer team and coaches Steffey, Fast, and Fritz.
 
The JV A Soccer team completed an outstanding season with a record of 10 wins and 4 losses. They finished the season with a 10-game unbeaten streak after losing their first 4 games. Congratulations to coaches Schneider and Hegarty and the JV A soccer team. 


 
Cross Country

The 3rd Cross Country team completed an excellent season with a record of 10 wins and 2 losses. They finished 2nd at the middle school championship race at Roxbury Latin. At the championship, the team placed 6 runners in the top 20 finishers. Mason Iandiorio 20th, Declan Woolbert 19th, Andrew Hildebrandt 16th, Henry Ramanathan 15th, Alejandro Laidlaw 12th, and William Walton 11th. Congratulations to coaches DeCaprio, Rohrer, and Kirby and the 3rd Cross Country team.

The JV Cross Country team completed a remarkable season with an overall record of 12 wins and 2 losses. They finished 2nd at the ISL Championship race. At the ISL Championship race, 6 Belmont Hill runners finished in the top 25 including Angus Harrison 21st, Mac Bobo 20th, Jackson Pagan 19th, Duncan Killbride 13th, Paris Liston 12th, and Davis Woolbert 1st. 
 
The Varsity Cross Country team also completed a very successful season with an overall record of 11 wins and 4 losses. They finished 3rd at the ISL Championship race. At the ISL Championship race, 2 Belmont Hill runners finished in the top 25 including, Miles Sandoski 17th and James Donahue 1st. This is the first time in school history that Belmont Hill has had the winner of both the JV and varsity ISL Cross Country Championship races. Congratulations to the JV and Varsity cross country teams and coaches Trautz, M. Gorman, and Harder. 

Also in cross country, James Donahue was voted ISL MVP/Globe All Scholastic. James also finished his Belmont Hill and ISL cross country career as the current course record holder at 7 ISL schools including: Our home Belmont Hill course at Rockmeadow, BB&N, Governors, Groton, Middlesex, Milton, and Nobles.

In conclusion I would like to give special thanks to all our coaches for a terrific job this fall, to Mr. Rosser and Mr. Davis for all their hard work in our athletic office, to Mr. Chin and Ms. Ruys for their hard work in the training room, to Mr. Matos, Mrs. Rudzinski, Mr. Marzilli, Mr. Carey, Mr. Herrera and the whole maintenance and grounds staff for their tireless work on our fields, and to Mr. Negron and Mr. Wade for their work in the equipment room. Thanks again to all for a terrific fall season.
