Building Community for Belmont Hill Families

Building Community for Belmont Hill Families

Belmont Hill takes pride in creating a relational experience for students, whether that’s with their peers or members of the faculty. This philosophy also extends to parents and guardians through the Parents' Council’s frequent events to gather together, build relationships, and be impactful contributors to school life.

"Strong partnerships between families and the school create the best environment for students to thrive,” said Director of Parent Engagement Lora Farkas. “With students coming from more than 70 communities, we intentionally foster opportunities for parents to connect and build a welcoming, supportive network.”

The most recent of these events was the “State of the School” hosted by Greg Schneider, Ronald M. Druker ’62 Head of School. Taking place on March 4 this year, the annual presentation offers Mr. Schneider a chance to share updates on current initiatives and future plans while also leaving ample time for questions and conversation.

The State of the School is just one of many events parents are invited to attend on campus through a variety of formats and aims. Recurring morning coffees by Form provide parents time with the parents of their son’s grade level. Presentations from faculty touch on important topics such as a recent panel discussing the School’s approach to A.I.  Evening programs like the Lunar New Year Dinner, Muslim Family Dinner, and Shabbat Dinner invite families of all backgrounds to learn from other cultural traditions present in the community.

Events hosted on campus feature guests from outside the School as well. Multiple times a year, experts on raising teenagers speak to parents to dive deep on relevant topics of the moment, such as an upcoming discussion on the mental health of athletes.

While there is certainly no expectation that parents attend these events, the hope is that the frequency and range of format and topics provide pathways for every parent to feel connected to school life and to their peers. “These events help strengthen connections within the community while supporting our shared commitment to our students,” Ms. Farkas said.

Mrs. Farkas has seen time and again, through her current role and as parent of two Belmont Hill graduates herself, how impactful parents can be in supporting the school, the boys, and one another. “Their energy, talent, and dedication enrich the life of Belmont Hill in countless ways."  Mrs. Farkas and the Parents' Council ensure that enrichment goes both ways.
