Belmont Hill Welcomes Political Analyst Peter Flaherty on Election Eve

On November 4, 2024, just a day before the national election, political analyst and consultant Peter Flaherty spoke to the Belmont Hill community. This year’s Speaker Program included an insightful overview of the electoral landscape by bringing in three guests. Known for his work with Republican campaigns, Mr. Flaherty approached the presentation with neutrality, focusing on the key swing states and influential counties likely to shape this year’s outcome.

Throughout his remarks, Mr. Flaherty emphasized the significance of each state’s unique dynamics and encouraged students to follow election news with an understanding of these pivotal regions. He is currently a visiting lecturer at the J.D. Power Center for Liberal Arts in the World at Holy Cross College. Mr. Flaherty, also a former Boston Assistant District Attorney, has a long-standing connection to Belmont Hill as a parent of two graduates.

Earlier this fall, Belmont Hill welcomed two other distinguished speakers as part of its effort to engage students in civic life. On September 13, Representative Pat Ryan discussed his career and the importance of national unity. He encouraged students to carry forward values of service and patriotism, reflecting on his time at West Point and as a Representative for New York's 18th District. On October 4, former Representative Will Hurd spoke on “Extending the Experiment,” urging students to embrace the principles on which the country was founded and to approach civic challenges with courage and resolve. A former CIA officer and tech industry leader, Mr. Hurd shared his commitment to unity and optimism in addressing political and societal issues.

Both Mr. Ryan and Mr. Hurd underscored the urgent responsibility of voting and civic engagement. While they come from different backgrounds and political affiliations, their shared message highlighted the need for more Americans to embrace servant leadership and lessen partisan divides. With the Speaker Program leading up to the November election, Belmont Hill students now have the perspective and inspiration to fully appreciate and exercise their civic responsibilities as future voters.
