Belmont Hill Opens New Facilities Building

Belmont Hill Opens New Facilities Building

Earlier this month, Belmont Hill opened a new state of the art home for the facilities department. “It is a world class functional space for our facilities team to do their best work for years to come,” said Greg Schneider, Ronald M. Druker ‘62 Head of School. “I am so incredibly proud of the work they do to make our campus sparkle, and this cannot happen without amazing people and spaces to do that work.”

Situated on the East Campus, the new space includes robust common areas, offices, and locker rooms, along with an increased capacity to properly store and maintain the high level equipment and vehicles used on campus each day. “Moving to the East Campus marks an exciting new chapter for our team,” said Director of Facilities Elton Matos. “The building will make a remarkable impact on our daily routines—a place where our team can thrive, collaborate, and bring our best every day. I’m thrilled about the ways it will help us support the community with the excellence it deserves."

With an emphasis on sustainability from the earliest stages of planning, the site was designed and built with the long-term goal of achieving a net zero carbon footprint. The building runs on a high efficiency VRF system for heating and cooling with plans underway for the future installation of solar arrays. The interior lighting features a daylight harvesting system while the parking lot utilizes automatic sensors tracking occupancy, ensuring no energy is wasted.

Another of the School’s top priorities for the project was for the building to seamlessly fit with the character of the surrounding neighborhood. “While the development process was obviously challenging, we continually articulated our commitment to doing this project the right way,” Mr. Schneider said. “I believe that we have delivered on that promise in a special way.”

While the building fills a vital need in its own right, Mr. Schneider sees its construction as one piece of Belmont Hill’s exciting future. “This project enables our ability to contemplate a new Dining Commons on the main campus. As such, opening this building is a massive step forward in our long term campus plan.”
