Belmont Hill Celebrates Outstanding Winter Sports Season
The Belmont Hill School community honored its winter athletes at the 2025 Winter Sports Awards ceremony led by Athletics Director George Tahan, recognizing exceptional performances across Alpine Skiing, Basketball, Hockey, Nordic Skiing, Squash, and Wrestling. The season was highlighted by championship titles in multiple sports, including an ISL championship for the Varsity Alpine Ski team with an impressive 55-1 record, the Nordic Ski team's Lakes Region Championship, the Varsity Squash team's 15th ISL Championship in 16 years with a 15-1 record, and the Wrestling team's continued dominance with ISL Dual Meet and Graves-Kelsey Tournament championships. Individual athletes received recognition through various team awards, ISL All-League honors, All-New England selections, 1000-point career milestones for basketball players Jamari Robinson and Giacomo Kaplan, and All-American status for wrestlers Jack Dragoumanos and Isaac Novod.

The Alpine Ski Coaches Trophy recognizes that individual who in the judgment of his coaches has displayed the greatest improvement.

The Toni Matt award is presented to that boy who has made the greatest contribution to the Belmont Hill alpine ski team.

The Ex-Captains Basketball Trophy is presented to that boy who in the judgment of his coach made the greatest contribution to the season.

The Carl H. Amon Jr. Basketball Trophy is presented in honor of the former President of the Belmont Hill Board of Trustees from 1964-1987, an enthusiastic supporter of Belmont Hill Basketball and father of three former varsity basketball players. This award is given to that member of the varsity team whose unselfishness, sportsmanship and concern for team play have best exemplified the ideals of Belmont Hill athletics.

Trophy Winners
Wyman S. Smart Jr. Hockey Trophy is awarded to that player who in the judgment of his coaches has made the greatest improvement this year.
- Jack Duffy
Kenneth M. Martin Jr. Hockey Trophy, given by Mrs. Virginia Martin in memory of her husband. Mr. Martin was a member of the first graduating class at Belmont Hill in 1927. At Belmont Hill he earned 11 varsity letters and he captained the varsity hockey team three of his four years on the team. This trophy is given to the player who in the judgment of his coaches is the most valuable player on the varsity team. Former faculty and coach Ken Martin ‘65 was in attendance to present the award, named in honor of his father. Mr. Martin served Belmont Hill for 51 years as a latin teacher and coach. He coached the varsity hockey team for 39 years.

Nordic Skiing
The most improved award in Nordic skiing is awarded to that skier who in the judgment of his coaches has made the greatest improvement this year.

The Nordic Ski Coaches’ Trophy honors that young man who has contributed the most to the Belmont Hill Nordic Ski team.

Squash
The most improved squash player trophy is given to the boy who has exhibited the greatest progress on and off the squash court.

The Squash Coaches’ Trophy is awarded to that player who has made the greatest contribution to the sport of squash this year.

Wrestling
The William “Bingo” Emerson wrestling trophy honors a 1960 Belmont Hill second generation graduate who was killed in Vietnam. While at Belmont Hill, he captained the wrestling team and won awards in both football and wrestling in his senior year. This award is presented to the boy who in the opinion of his coaches has exhibited the greatest improvement in wrestling.

The Gilbert S. Jordan Athletic Achievement Award in Wrestling
This bowl was donated by alumni to honor “Gibby” Jordan, a longtime wrestling coach and director of maintenance who retired in 1986. It is presented to that boy who has made the greatest contribution to the Belmont Hill Wrestling program.

Henry B. Sawyer Awards
The Henry B. Sawyer Awards were suggested by the school senate and approved by the athletic committee in 1987. These sportsmanship awards recognize Mr. Sawyer’s 52 years of service to the school. These awards are presented seasonally by sport to “ the ideal sportsman whose emotions are controlled by a genuine love and respect for his fellow man as well as the game.

Winter Athletic Accomplishments
In Alpine Skiing
The JV Alpine ski team completed an undefeated season going a perfect 60-0 in ISL racing this season.
The varsity team completed a championship season with an overall record of 55 wins and 1 loss thereby capturing the ISL championship. They followed that up with a second place finish at the New England championship race at Mt Sunapee, the best finish by an ISL school at the championship. Congratulations to coaches Creedon, Trautz, Feldman, and Goldberg and the varsity and JV alpine ski teams.
In Basketball
The 5th basketball team completed an incredible season with a record of 20 wins and 1 loss. Congratulations to the 5th basketball team and Coaches Musler, Decruz, Shen, and Musler.
The 4th basketball team completed a historic undefeated season with a record of 21 wins and 0 losses. Congratulations to coaches LaLiberte and Chittock and the 4th basketball team.
The 3rd basketball team completed a remarkable season with a record of 20 wins and 7 losses. They captured the Belmont Hill Invitational Tournament in December defeating St. Sebastians in the finals 57 to 26 and the Biscoe Tournament at Fenn School defeating Fenn in the finals 53 to 30. Congratulations to coaches Collins and Fritz and the 3rd basketball team.
The varsity basketball team completed an excellent season with an overall record 15 wins and 10 losses. Congratulations to coaches Cofield and Hooper and the varsity basketball team.
Also in varsity basketball, two players reached 1000 career points. Jamari Robinson on January 17 in a 67-54 win over BBN and Giacomo Kaplan on February, 21 in a 47-46 win over Middlesex.
In Hockey
The 5th hockey team completed an excellent season with a record of 14 wins, 8 losses and 1 tie. Congratulations to coaches Peck, McCarthy, and Pare and the 5th hockey team.
The 4th hockey team completed a remarkable season with a record of 21 wins, 1 loss and 2 ties. They avenged their one loss of the season by defeating Fay School 3 to 2 on the last day of the season. Congratulations to coach Cunningham and the 4th hockey team.
The JV hockey team completed an outstanding season with a record of 21 wins, 5 losses, and 1 tie. They won the Belmont Hill Invitational Tournament by defeating BC High 6 to 3 in the finals. Congratulations to Coaches Davis, Cherpeck, and Burgess and the JV hockey team.
The varsity hockey team completed an outstanding season with a record of 21 wins, 6 losses and 3 ties. They finished second in the ISL Keller Division. They won the school’s 21st Lawrenceville Tournament title and the third in the last 4 years. They qualified for the NEPSAC Martin/Earl Tournament. In the tournament, they defeated Kent School 5-3 in the quarterfinals before falling to Westminster School in the semifinals 4-3.

In Nordic Skiing
The Nordic Ski Team completed a championship season with an overall dual meet record of 48 wins and 2 losses.
Tied with Proctor Academy in the regular season, the team secured a Lakes Region Championship by placing five Belmont Hill skiers in the top ten at the championship race at Proctor:

- TZ Snail (8th)
- Jack Kastner (5th)
- Will Walton (1st)
The team then finished second to Gould Academy at the NEPSAC Championship at Dublin School.
Will Walton completed an undefeated season and was both Lakes Region and NEPSAC Individual Nordic Ski Champion.
Congratulations to the Nordic Ski team and coaches DeCaprio, Calloway, Kirby, and Weiter. I ask the captains to come forward and present the Lakes Region Championship and 2nd Place NEPSAC Trophy.
In Squash
The 3rd squash team completed an excellent season with a record of 13 wins and 6 losses. Congratulations to Coaches Speer and Ojeni and the 3rd squash team.
The varsity squash team completed yet another championship season going undefeated in ISL play and finishing the season with an overall dual match record of 15 wins and 1 loss. This is the squash team’s 15th ISL Championship in the last 16 years. Congratulations to the varsity squash team and coaches Brownell and Wellemeyer.
In Wrestling
The 3rd Wrestling team completed an undefeated 10-0 season. Their performance included a team title at the Cardigan Tournament, where 7 of 14 wrestlers took first. They also captured the team title at the New England Jr Prep Tournament at Fessenden where three wrestlers, Alex Pimental, Colin Demmons, and Zach Park, took first place. Congratulations to the 3rd wrestling team and coaches Davis, Leonardis, Messina, Ryan, Sullivan, and Webb. I ask the boys to come forward and present the tournament championship trophies.
The varsity wrestling team completed another championship season finishing with an overall record of 26 wins and 2 losses. During the season they took 1st Place at the Graves-Kelsey Wrestling Championship and the won the ISL Dual meet championship by going a perfect 11-0 in ISL dual meets for the 9th consecutive year. The team finished 3rd at the New England Championship at Exeter. They followed that up by finishing 12th at the Prep Wrestling Nationals at Lehigh.
Nine Belmont Hill Wrestlers, Brody Sayers, Declan Woolbert, Isaac Novod, Scott Moreau, Jack Dragoumanos, Andrew Pimental, Henry Santini, Alex White and Myles Beckett were 2025 Graves Kelsey Tournament Champions. Jack Dragoumanos was named the Outstanding Wrestler at the Graved Kelsey.
Brody Sayers, Isaac Novod and Jack Dragoumanos were 2025 NEPSAC Champions.
Isaac Novod and Jack Dragoumanos earned All-American status at the Prep Nationals.
Congratulations to coaches Bradley, Leonardis, Davis, Sullivan, Williams, Ryan, Messina, and Ott and the varsity wrestling team. I ask the captains to come forward to present the ISL Dual Meet and Graves Kelsey Championship trophies and the NEPSAC third place trophy.
